Cricker Merv Hughes - the Mo SW
Australian sport’s most famous moustache, that belonging to former Test cricketer and Australian selector, Merv Hughes, will be among the guests at the Melbourne Boat Show (July 3 – 7).

'Big Merv’, as he was known on the world’s cricket fields, will auction the Quintrex Offshore Relay boat that took part in the 1200 nautical mile Quintrex Offshore Rally from Brisbane to Melbourne.

Proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

The Quintrex Offshore Relay began on May 18 and is timed to complete the journey on June 28.

On Sunday, July 6, at 4pm ‘Big Merv’ will call the shots from behind the microphone to auction the boat.

Quintrex national sales and marketing manager, Damien Duncan, described the auction as a ‘one-off opportunity to purchase a unique and award winning boat for a great cause.’

'This is not only a chance top purchase a uniquely fitted out boat that’s been put through its paces, but it is also a boat that was the recipient of the Australian Marine Industry Federation’s honour as Fishing Trailerable Aluminium (Over 6.0-metres) Boat of the Year,' he added.

The auction will be held on the stand of Melbourne Quintrex dealership JV Marine and in addition to an auction for a good cause, Duncan promises an entertaining afternoon.

A grand welcome party will be held for the arrival of the 670 Offshore at 11.30am at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.

During its gruelling journey down Australia’s eastern seaboard, the 670 Offshore visited 17 major ports, undergoing a test of endurance that showcased the toughness and durability of the boat and the performance and economy of its Cummins MerCruiser stern drive diesel.

Quintrex dealers along the route of the coastal voyage staged fund raising barbecues in support of the Prostate Cancer Foundation and held ‘on-water days’ to enable people a chance to see and evaluate the 670 Offshore, together with other models from the Quintrex range.

Major sponsors of the 1200 nautical mile voyage included GME, Club Marine, Lowrance, Shimano, GE Money Solutions, Zodiac, Floscan Australia, Cummins MerCruiser, Vision Trak and BLA.
