We have a champion! For the third straight year, Vincenzo Onorato's Mascalzone Latino has claimed the title of Rolex Farr 40 World Champion. After a tense hearing, the jury has decided unanimously to disqualify Joe Fly from race #9.

The title was decided on shore – After Wolfgang Stolz Opus One claimed the victory in race #10 over Carlo Alberini’s Calvi Network and Alessandro Barnaba ’s Fiamma, Giovanni Maspero Joe Fly crossed the finish line in fourth, four places better than Vincenzo Onorato’s Mascalzone Latino, to claim the provisional victory in the 2008 Rolex Farr 40 World Championship.

Joe Fly had two protests pending against it from race #9, so its championship fate was in the hands of the international jury, headed by Tom Ehman. Maspero’s Joe Fly was involved in an incident in the first beat of the ninth race and protests were lodged against the Italian boat.

Representatives of Mascalzone Latino, Barking Mad and Joe Fly told their stories to the international jury. The protest was deemed valid and then heard. After a tense hearing, the jury decided unanimously to disqualify Joe Fly from race #9.

For the third straight year, Vincenzo Onorato's Mascalzone Latino is the Rolex Farr 40 World Champion.
