Notice of Race - 2008 Olympic Sailing Competition

The final version of the Notice of Race for the 2008 Olympic Sailing Competition is now available to download from the ISAF Olympic microsite.

The Notice of Race states the key conditions for the 11 sailing events at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Included in the Notice of Race are details on the rules, regulations, entry and qualification guidelines, format, scoring, schedule, venue and courses that will be used to decide the sailing medallists of the XXIX Olympiad.

You can view the Notice of Race, together with all the other key info relating to Beijing, on the ISAF Olympic microsite - www.sailing.org/olympics - and the website on the Sailing Committee of BOCOG - www.sailing2008.org/en/.

The final version of the Notice of Race includes more information under the Additional Information section, namely in the sections on Containers and Equipment, Food and Beverages, Accreditation and Visa, Coach Boat Rental, Arrival and Departure and Accommodation.

Schedule and Scoring

The Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Sailing Competition will take place at the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Centre in Qingdao, located in the Shandong province of China, approximately 800 kilometres southeast of Beijing. Racing is scheduled to take place from 9-21 August, with 22-23 August as reserve days. At the 2008 Games sailing will introduce a new format across all 11 events, with the top-ten boats at the end of the opening series competing in a double-points scoring 'Medal Race' to decide the final positions. The eleven Medal Races, on a shorter course, close in to shore, have a target time of approximately 30 minutes and are spread over five days, from 16-21 August.



Qingdao, as one of the co-host cities of the Beijing Games, will be holding its own Opening and Closing Ceremonies. These will take place the day after and the day before the Ceremonies in Beijing, on the 9 and 23 August.

Measurement And Boat Identification

The Notice of Race also contains details on boat identification and measurement and competitors' clothing and equipment. To accompany the Notice of Race in this these respects, the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Sailing Competition Measurement Regulations and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Manufacturer Identification Guidelines have been published and are available to download from www.sailing.org/olympics under 'Key Documents'.
