True Blue leads Performance Handicap Division (PHS) Day One

by Rob Kothe on 2 Dec 2001
Geoff Lavis Inglis 50 Wild Thing took line honours in both PHS races on Day One of the JPMorgan regatta with Gavin Ward's Trip 47 Abracadabra taking second in both races as well.

However the first race winner on PHS handicap was Middle Harbour's own Chris Potter with his NSX 36 True Blue, from Rod Wills Northshore 38 Time Out with Gregg Daven and Alan Clark Peterson 30 Margiot Bay taking third place.

The second race saw the two big boats winning on handicap with Abracadabra taking the handicap win from Wild Thing. However Chris Potter kept his NSX-36 moving well and managed to take third place to lead the regatta after Day One. With a traditional summer north easter expected today, it will be interesting to see how Sydney to Hobart contender Chris Bowlings Hick 30 Red Rock Communications and the bulk of the fleet in the 30-35 foot range handles the slightly heavier breezes.
