Breaking News: Australian Yngling Team win Silver at the 2008 World Championships in Miami.

The medal Race is double points and non discardable.

Krystal Weir, Karen Gojnich and Angela Farrell from the RSYS Yngling fleet, had only a five point gap over the German crew led by Ulrike Schuemann going into the Medal Race.

This meant that the Australians needed to finish no further than two places behind the German crew to hold on to second place for Silver. finished ninth but their German rivals had been sailed back into seventh place.

It was a remarkable performance by the three women as they have been sailing together in the Yngling class only for two months, with Krystal taking the place of the injured Nicky Bethwaite.

Karen Gojnich told Sailors Radio this morning Miami, 'we are ecstatic, we were focussing on process and to look up and discover we were second. This was only our second regatta as a combination. We had our moments, but whatever we're been doing, it has worked!'

'Early in the regatta we had 16-25's and everyone said, its the best conditions for the Aussie and New Zealanders, we were both doing well, but in the last few days when we had 6-10's we were still up there. '
