Ayton continues to lead Yngling Worlds

GBR 2008 Olympic nominees, Sarah Ayton, Sarah Webb and Pippa Wilson continue to lead the 2008 Yngling World Championships in Miami. The British crew have finished in the top three in each of the four races sailed to date.

Big movers in the field was the Australian crew of Krystal Weir, Karyn Gojnich and Angela Farrell, who scored a second and third to move into second overall. Weir is sailing in her second ever Yngling championship after being a late replacement for Nicky Bethwaite who had the misfortune to suffer complications after breaking both arms in a mountain biking accident.

Weir had been campaigning the Laser Radial, but was not selected in this event for the 2008 Olympics by yachting Australia, who then tapped her on the shoulder when Bethwaite was unable to continue her Olympic campaign.

Last night Krystal Weir commented to Sail-World, 'This is about doing the Basics well and we are doing that. Many teams here have a lot riding on this regatta, we are a new team so our focus is on the process not the results.'

The New Zealand crew of Sharon Ferris , Raynor Smeal and Olivia Powrie have dropped back to fourth overall after the second day of racing.

They scored sixth and 11th places to drop two places on the points table. They are now eight points behind the third placed German crew. This margin may close up when the discard race is allowed in the points score.
