Sunday, Long Beach Yacht Club will hold the traditional Two Gates Invitational sailboat race kicking off the start of the 2008 racing season. The name comes from the 13.2 nautical mile path the racers take.
Starting at noon off Long Beach near the Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier the boats head out Angels Gate which is the harbor entrance for the Port of Los Angeles. Turning East outside the breakwater, the boats enter the Port of Long Beach at Queens Gate crossing the finish line where they began.
The 2007 race saw over 30 boats competing for class trophies with Cal 20s and three PHRF classes.
Some of the competitors in last year’s event that have already committed this year are 'Sky' Novodvorsky’s Santana 27, Trident; Don Weimer’s Catalina 38, Bilbo Baggins; Charlie Legeman’s Cal 25, Go Big Daddy Go and Bill Johnson’s, Admiralty 30, Despicable 2.
Entries forms are available on the LBYC website at www.lbyc.org or at the club at 6201 Appian Way, Long Beach.
