The Superyacht Cup Expands into Asia

by Superyacht Cup media on 21 Dec 2007
. SW
The Superyacht Cup has announced a new joint-venture with The Phuket Invitational Superyacht Rendezvous, Thailand. The Superyacht Cup has been organizing Superyacht sailing regattas for 12 years, with the recent event in Palma in June 2007 breaking all records by attracting 52 of the world's biggest sailing yachts.

'We are excited at the opportunity of joining forces with Asia’s Phuket Invitational, pooling our knowledge and expertise to present a very appealing addition to our event calendar' said Spike Thompson, co-founder of The Superyacht Cup. 'We are continually being asked to consider ways of including events for motor yachts, and the experience of the team in Phuket in this regard will be invaluable.'

Both sailing and motor yachts take part in daily sailing rallies at the Phuket event, and then participants and their guests enjoy glamorous evening social functions in the prestigious and world-famous Amanpuri Resort. With continued sponsorship support from Feadship, the event has been growing steadily in popularity over the last few years.

The new partnership with the Phuket Invitational Rendezvous will introduce some spectacular new cruising grounds to the Superyacht Cup circuit. 'Asia’s servicing infrastructure and facilities have expanded considerably over the last 5 years,' said Adam Frost, Director of the Phuket Invitational Rendezvous, 'and now offers the high level of service and provisioning that some of the world’s most elite clientele have come to expect, as well as an exciting array of new destinations to discover'.

2007 will be the 7th edition of the Phuket Invitational Superyacht Rendezvous, held in mid December each year. The 2008 event will see the start of the joint venture between the two organizations. Adam Frost welcomes the input that The Superyacht Cup will bring, and both parties agree that in the ever-expanding market, and with the bigger international team to organize the events, 'we should quickly achieve our aim of developing The Superyacht Cup Phuket into the leading Superyacht event in Asia.'

This new joint venture event will comprise a 3-day regatta sailing around some of the region’s most beautiful Islands and Resorts, and will also incorporate a new Asia Charter Show and Destination Asia Cruising Forum.

Forthcoming Superyacht Cup events now include:

The Superyacht Cup Transatlantic Challenge starting in Antigua in April 2008
The Superyacht Cup, Palma, June 11th - 14th 2008
The Superyacht Cup, Antigua, December 2008
The Superyacht Cup Phuket Invitational, December 2008

The Superyacht Cup is part of Informa plc, owner of the Monaco Yacht Show, and two newly-launched events: the World Yacht Racing Forum, Monaco (December 2008), and the Abu Dhabi Yacht Show (March 2009).
