Clipper Round the World YR seeks WA recruits

Could you take on the world?

The Clipper 07-08 Round the World Yacht Race is visiting Fremantle in mid December and organisers are looking for potential crew members for the 09-10 edition of the race – no previous sailing experience necessary.

Crew Recruitment Manager David Cusworth said the event was the only one of its kind in the world, offering non professional sailors the chance to compete in a round the world yacht race.

David said West Australians were known for their love of sport and the state had a great reputation for producing world class sailors.

'If you’re up for a new challenge and are looking for the chance to break away from the shackles of everyday life, we want to hear from you,' said David.

'Anyone can become involved. You don’t need any experience – just a thirst for adventure.'

He went on to say that the Clipper Race is the only place you’ll find farmers competing against teachers, doctors against students, housewives against chief executives.
'And, they’ll all be taking on the elements, braving the icy conditions of the North Pacific, the energy sapping heat of the tropics, the mountainous seas of the Southern Ocean and the frustrating calms of the Doldrums.'
The event was the only crewed race to sail through the Southern Ocean – one of the ultimate testing grounds.

If you’re interested in getting involved, Clipper Ventures is holding a number of recruitment events at the Fremantle Sailing Club during the race stopover.

Recruitment presentations are being held at 19:00 on 20 and 29 December and there is an open day on 29 December which includes trial sails for prospective crew on one of the ten Clipper racing yachts.

For more information about becoming a crew member on the Clipper 09-10 Race or to attend one of the recruitment events contact Crew Recruitment Manager David Cusworth on +44 (0) 7884 490645, between 16 Dec and 01 January on 0413 185932or email oceanracer@clipperroundtheworld.com.
