Phuket, 4 December 2007 – The second day of 2007 Phuket King’s Cup Regatta saw continuing strong winds off scenic Phuket island. Second day races were sponsored by Thai Beverage Plc, Siam Winery and Had Thip Plc, local distributor of Coca-Cola. The night’s prize giving ceremony was held at Jungceylon luxury shopping center.

Frank Pong’s Jelik won first place again in racing class for the second race of the regatta, followed by Fortis Mandrake and Ray Robert’s Quantum Racing. Third race placing saw Quantum Racing in first, followed by Foxy Lady III and Full Metal Jacket.

Firefly 850 Sport class ran two races as well despite seeing two accidents. Twin Sharks and SEA Properties collided resulting in significant damage to the boats. Following a rapid response from the underwater team, two sailors were taken to a hospital and will remain overnight for observation. Moto Inzi collided with an inflatable media boat. There were minor injuries and the boat reportedly will not continue racing.

The remaining boats placed Mamba, Pagatoon and Voodoo Child first to third in race one. The second race saw the same placing for the first three boats.

IRC 2 ran two races. La Samudra bested Madam Butterfly and Royal Thai Navy 1 in the first race only to see Madam Butterfly retake first over La Samudra and Royal Thai Navy 1 in the second.

Tomorrow morning will see the fleet perform a sail past with the Royal Thai Navy in honor of His Majesty the King of Thailand’s 80th birthday. A celebration will be held in the evening to honor HM, joining similar celebrations across the country.

Principal sponsorship again this year comes from Raimon Land, who have announced support of the event until 2012. Also joining the event as sponsors are Kata Group, TMB Bank Plc, Nautica, Thai Beverages Plc, Thai Airways, Mom Tri’s Boat House, Sunsail, Siam Winery, Coca-Cola and a host of local Phuket businesses which support the event. Media sponsorship in part comes from Phuket Magazine, The Nation and Phuket Gazette.

With the Royal Patronage of His Majesty the King, the Regatta is organized by the Phuket King's Cup Regatta Organizing Committee under the auspices of the Royal Varuna Yacht Club, in conjunction with the Yacht Racing Association of Thailand, the Royal Thai Navy and the Province of Phuket.

Results were provisional as of press time. Final results will be posted online.

Double Double
And the rest of the line is not toil and trouble, but quadruple, then another double… On the eve of the 100th Fastnet that has attracted some 464 entries, I heard of one entry in this record fleet that seemed so very apt. Not only because it includes the Commodore of the RORC, but because it combines two Brits and two Aussies.
