Magnitude 80 wins the Long Beach to Cabo Race

The big boys on the big boats had their chance to break a record for the sleigh ride from Long Beach to Cabo San Lucas but missed by less than an hour. Doug Barker’s Magnitude 80 team covered approximately 800 miles in three days, four hours, forty-three minutes and forty-three seconds with a corrected time of three days twenty hours, thirty-two minutes and four seconds.
Barker was within 57 minutes of the record. Peligroso crossed the line second in less than four days, but won with a corrected time of three days, seventeen hours, sixteen minutes and 47 seconds. Medicine Man was third with an actual and corrected time of less than four days. OEX finished early Wednesday morning and was fourth. Ruahatu and Holua boat started the race but withdrew due to mechanical problems.
The next West Coast record setting opportunity is the Vallarta Race which starts on March 2, 2008.
