Georgetown wins Jesuit School Intersectional

by Joe Sullivan - Coach-Fordham University Sailing Te on 25 Sep 2007
The Jesuit School Intersectional was held on Saturday September 22nd, at Fordham University.

The venue was the Morris Yacht and Beach Club, City Island, Bronx, new York - Long Island Sound.

Highlights: An inaccurate weather forecast by the pros resulted in
south-southeasterly breezes initially at 15 knots, which dropped quickly to four knots in the morning, under an overcast sky, which turned to heavy rain and a five-eight knot breeze after lunch. Despite No-Shows by three teams, Fairfield, Holy Cross & Loyola, the remaining three schools had an excellent regatta.

The host school entered a second team and the guest schools were given the
option of sailing A & B divisions with four boats each or combining divisions and having eight boats on the starting line. The latter was the unanimous choice and a double-round robin was held.

Sailors and several parents, who raved about the beautiful sailing venue, enjoyed bagels and cream cheese from H&H Bagels on Second Avenue; clam chowder and Italian bread from the Shrimp box on City Island, and Zagat's rated 'The Best Cheesecake in New York City' from S&S Bakery in the West Bronx.

Congratulations to the winning team from Georgetown, which recaptured the
Jesuit Cup from Fordham with a dominating performance. Representing Georgetown
were Scott Furnary and Ginger Cutler and Michael Campbell and Brooke Crawford.

In addition to the Jesuit Cup, which remains on display at the Vincent T. Lombardi Memorial Center on Fordham's Rose Hill campus, the Hoyas returned to D.C. with a 'Take-home' plaque and four, black, soon to be in high demand,
baseball-style caps with 'Educated By Jesuits' imprinted on the front.

A special 'Thank you' goes to juniors Greg Azzaretti and Gabriella Macari,
who helped on-land and on-the-water to run a very efficient event, and to
Afterguarder John Good '58, whose 45' Hunter provided a very civilized Race
Committee boat, particularly in the pouring rain.
