Day 2 of the Hornet UK Nationals

by media on 31 Jul 2007
Light and variable conditions were the order for the opening day at the Hornet National Championships at the Royal Torbay Yacht Club. 23 competitors, including entries from Holland and Poland, along with a large portion of nerves of steel for the race officer.

Race 1
A heavy port bias saw a general recall for the first start of the championships with a clean getaway on the second attempt. Olly Turner(2113) snuck away and by the finish had a commanding lead from Strangler (2132) and Eric Marchbanks (2178). The rest of the fleet was more separated than normal in the difficult conditions which also saw several moves of marks.

Race 2
A clean start for race 2 saw those who went to the left coming off best by the top mark. Large wind shifts provided more mark moves before Richard Garry(2154) gained line honours from Harry Ashworth(2156) and Dutch competitor Fred Weenig(H172). Olly Turner(2113) finished 4th to hold the overnight lead.

Day 2

Race 3
More light wind and another win for Richard Garry to take a two point lead over Olly Turner, with Jon Williams finishing second on the day and taking third overall, two points further back.
