Down to Earth
by Whisper Bay on 18 Jul 2007
With earthworks almost completed and the first suspended slab poured in mid-May, it’s ‘all systems go’, according to John Berlese, who is supervising the project for the builders, Hutchinson’s. A converted caravan park at Airlie Beach is about to become ‘home’ for some of the 60 workers already on site at Whisper Bay.
With a mix of locals and workers from Brisbane, accommodation will become a pressing issue when numbers build up to 150, hence the caravan park.
Heavy rain in mid-May delayed work for a couple of days but Berlese – voted by his colleagues as Hutchinson’s 2006 Constructor of the Year – is confident his team will meet the completion deadline of May 2008.
In fact, just quietly, he’s targeting early-year as his hoped for completion, if the weather is kind and the team continues to work as smoothly as it has since February 22, when they first moved on site.
We’ll report their progress in upcoming issues of Whisperings.
