Murray Bucknall talk at Southport Yacht Club

by Helen Allardice on 29 Jun 2007
Murray Bucknell and Jon Sayer from QLD on Ryujin FGI in the Melbourne Osaka race Teri Dodds http://www.teridodds.com
The Southport Yacht Club invites you to come and listen to Murray Bucknall: 1st Place - Open Racer C Class & fourth over the line in the 2007 Melbourne Osaka Double Handed Yacht Race, giving an inspirational talk on his harowing experiences in the race and on the trip home!

As an active sailing member of Southport Yacht Club, Murray campaigned his boat, 'Ryujin FGI', a Sayer 12m, along with the designer and builder Jon Sayer, in the 2007 Melbourne Osaka Double Handed Yacht Race in late March this year!

Doggedly leading the fleet by 56nm after 8 days of racing, Ryujin FGI broke their rudder forcing them into Bundaberg to make repairs. Not giving up, they built a brand new rudder and after nearly 7 days, re-entered the race, with only one yacht behind them, and the leaders an insurmountable 767 miles ahead!

One by one Bucknall and Sayer picked off their adversaries, finally overtaking the Japanese and Victorian boats bringing RYUJIN FGI home fourth across the line, and the only yacht from their Open Racer C class to finish the 5,500 nautical mile odyssey!

Ryujin FGI is our first SYC boat to compete in a Melbourne to Osaka Yacht Race, and we are honoured to have Murray, who has just returned from Japan, talk about the race, as well as the even more exciting trip home, typhoons and all!

As a sailor, an adventurer or a dreamer, we invite you to come and listen to this inspiration talk, here at the Hollywell Clubhouse straight after the Junior Optimist State Titles racing on Saturday 14th July 2007 at 5.30pm!

The bar and canteen will be open for drinks and nibblies, and the club will be filled with Optimist kids and their parents. Everyone invited!

Do not miss this opportunity to be inspired.!!!
