The annual sailing event, 'Bosphorus Cup'organized by ORG Sports Marketing and Marmara Sailing Club, took place in Istanbul during the last weekend of May. A total of 83 boats in six different IRC categories sailed the two day event in the tricky waters of Istanbul.
On May 26th, the first day of the event, the boats sailed the famous Bosphorus Race which is a windward leeward course on the Bosphorus, with the leeward mark located in front of the Çýraðan Kempinski Hotel and the windward mark in front of the Anadolu Castle, built by Ottomans in 16th century. The boats sailed under a northerly breeze and the tight competition was between two Farr 40’s Oðuzhan Too and Provezza. They sailed the course in more than three hours and finished by a six seconds difference, with Provezza 5 ahead.
On the second day of the event, May 27th, the boats sailed on the Marmara Sea. The planned three race programme was cancelled due to light winds and the fleet sailed just one race.
Dubois One Tonner UNO (former Port Pendennis) won the IRC 1 category just 30 seconds ahead of another Dubois design Orient Express V closely behind. The Farr 40’s took 3rd and 4th places.
The International jury, with Costas Tsantilis (GRE) and Stanislav Kassarov (BUL) on board, had a busy day. After two races; the perpetual Bosphorus Cup trophy went 'Provezza 5 Farr 40' owned by Mr. Ergin Ýmre and skippered by Turkish veteran sailor Orhan Tüker.
Bosphorus Cup is one of the biggest sailing events in Eastern Mediterranean and is sponsored by shop&miles, the credit card brand of the largest Turkish bank 'Garanti Bankasý'.
