Final Day - 5 April 2007
In Brief:

Bundock/Ashby win Medal race
Bundock/Ashby Win series overall.
Pashalidis/Trigonis Win European Championship
Breeze 12 knots
In Detail:

The top ten boats met in the final medal race for the top 10 shoot out on a short course off the El Arenal Harbour in Palma Mallorca. The Tornado class was the luckiest of all 10 Olympic classes as the seabreeze kicked in ten minutes before the scheduled start time and faded out once again as the leaders crossed the finish line.

The majority of the fleet elected to work the left hand side of the course and it was Roland Gaebler/Gunnar Struckmann that had the best start at the bottom end of the starting line and went the furtherest left. Roland and Gunnar lead bundock/Ashby into the first mark with the Greek team of Pashalidis/Trigonis in a close third.

Gaebler went a little far to the lay line to the bottom mark allowing Bundock/Ashby to gybe inside and get a inside lane around the mark to take first position. The next upwind the right hand side was favoured and it was the Russians that took full advantage of the situation gaining valuable positions to round the top mark for the second time in second position behind Bundock/Ashby.

Bundock/Ashby was able to hold off the Russians on the final downwind to the finish. The Greeks finished third and then the breeze started to fade out and mixed up the results on the finish line.

Bundock/Ashby were awarded the Mats Nyberg Trophy as the overall leaders but it was the Greek team of Iordanis Pashalidis and Kostas Trigonis that are the European Champions.

Bundock said" It was fantastic result for us and our training partners. Greeks European Champions, Gaebler(GER) 9th and the Mc Millan (GBR)7th, it just shows we have working in the right direction and a fantastic start to the European season."

Glenn Ashby commented " It was a great way to finish the series to win the medal race and keep or Medal race winning standard going, we are extremely pleased to start off with a winning form as we finished the season last year"
