Better boat ramps for Sydney Harbour
by NSW Maritime on 3 Apr 2007
A new $2 million, three-year 100 per cent grant program will be offered by NSW Maritime as part of the State Government’s commitment to maintaining safe and accessible boat ramps in Sydney.
The funding will be accessible to local councils – who have responsibility for the maintenance of 22 existing boat ramps in Sydney Harbour.
The new funding package aims to ease the burden on local councils so they can make sure the ramps are in top condition and to encourage accessibility to the water.
The 100 per cent funding offer will apply to improvements such as car parking, lighting, signage, ramps, pontoons and jetties.
Routine maintenance and weed removal for the upgraded facilities will remain the responsibility of the local council.
The Better Boating initiative will not affect the existing Sharing Sydney Harbour Access Program (SSHAP) – which was established in 2003 and offers 50:50 funding grants for projects around the harbour.
The Better Boating Program will be funded by NSW Maritime.
