Solings downwind in Pedra Redonda Soling
The Mormaii 2007 Soling continental event will be held in Porto Alegre, Brasil at the traditional Jangadeiros Yacht Club from 4 to 7 April using Sunday 8th as reserve day.

The event will have a record of participation for the first time since the Soling class arrived to South America in the earlier 70’s, nowadays the fleet from at least 21 boats from SA and one from NA is a mix of these old boats that came earlier and newer ones that came in the following years.

Jangadeiros YC and Mormaii main partner in the event are satisfy with the level of entries which in sailor’s quantities at the YC reaches same level as the best events ever organized for one design classes only improved by offshore races with boats where crewing are up to 6 sailors on each boat.

The championship could have a few more participants but due to the distance to the neighbor countries and the real road situation, not 100% of the Argentine travelers could start their trip this week. With a record but only 75% of the traveler fleet eight Solings are in the road at this moment planning to arrive late this weekend and at least achieve some days to practice before first races starts next Thursday.

Two time World Champion (2001, 2004) Gustavo Warburg, Maximo Smith will be sailing with same crew Miguel Lacour as they finish third in the last 2006 World Championship in Annapolis. Three times Master South American champion Jose Lucio Glomb will be sailing with his son Daniel Glomb and Sergio Grossmann with a fierce objective to retain once more the Master cup.

The Soling circus won’t stop after the event, since the 2007 World Championship will be held in Argentina from November 16 to 24 where a fleet of 22/24 local Solings are already waiting for their visitors from overseas who will be acquiring new Solings made by Børresen and distribute specially at the Worlds for them, also a big expectation for the bigger Brazilian fleet to travel to Argentina ever in reciprocity to the actual effort.
