Hogs Breath Regatta IMS race 2 & 3

by Rob Kothe on 13 Aug 2001
2001 Hogs Breath Race Week - Invincible Sail-World.com /AUS http://www.sail-world.com
In brilliant sunshine and a 15-knot south Easter, the IMS fleet lined up for their second race this morning.

Eureka was midline and started in clear air, while SAP Ausmaid and Ninety-Seven started together near the committee boat. The smaller boats including Invincible and Interim took dirty air before bailing right.

Eureka just rounded the first buoy ahead of Ausmaid, who had her on time, but these two boats had opened up a useful break on Ninety-Seven.

The Farr 1104 Invincible and Beneteau 40.7 Ticket of Leave were both well advanced and did best on provisional handicap with Ausmaid third.

In an upset SAP Ausmaid, the current CYCA Blue Water champion took line honours from Eureka, with Ninety-Seven in third place.

In the afternoon race, conditions were stronger. A mishap occurred aboard Eureka, when the bow/mast crew had her head split when the spinnaker pole dropped on her head. Eureka immediately retired from the race. Luckily the young lady, needing medical attention and stitches was found otherwise unharmed.

Ausmaid took line honours from Ninety-Seven but again Invincible was close enough to her competitors to take first place, however Ausmaid was able to claim second on handicap, with Ticket of Leave third.

Provisional results are attached.

More news, results and especially photos across all the division will be incoming this afternoon on http://www.sail-world.com/hogsbreath
