Storm Anchoring System - Product of the Week

by Sail-World Cruising on 6 Feb 2007
Storm Anchor System SW
If you are placing your boat on an anchoring system in preparation for a storm then this product, by Colligo Marine and available by ordering on the web, might be just the thing you need.

It allows you to place 3 anchors and couple them together with a swivel and then run two or three lines back to your yacht or catamaran. The boat can then swivel on the anchors without getting the anchor chains twisted around each other. The designers recommend running chain from your anchors to the system and then nylon lines to your boat. (My first reaction is ‘Why not chain with a very long snubber?)

The system here pictured is for a monohulls, but there are versions for multihulls as well.

It includes 2 hot dipped galvanized plates with the usual > 4 mils zinc plating, 5 or 6, 5/8 inch hot dipped galvanized shackles and a 3/4 inch hot dipped galvanized swivel. All have been pull tested to Colligo Marine’s quality standards. The minimum breaking strength is over 30,000 lbs for the entire system!

Priced at US$199.00 for the monohull system or US$215.00 for the Multihull system.

The product is the brainchild of Colligo Marine – and who are they?

Colligo Marine is a product development firm focused on the marine industry. Their raison d’etre, they say, is to ‘provide innovative product solutions to boaters everywhere.’ They are a group of engineers with ‘a passion for boating and the marine industry’. They also say that most of their products are conceptualized from real world experience. They are been custom designing this product, and decided to carry it as a standard product.
