Singapore Straits coming up
by Sail World Asia on 15 Jan 2007
28 boats in four divisions are declared for the 13th Singapore Straits Regatta (starting on Wednesday), just one down on last year’s 29 entries in six classes.
Class A looks very much like a re-run of the Racing Division at last year’s Phuket King’s Cup, with the entry list dominated by five Hong Kong boats plus Bill Bremner’s Foxy Lady and Jeff Davison’s Panic.
This is the last regatta in the series for the Sir Thomas Lipton Trophy, decided on least aggregate score from the Raja Muda, Phuket King’s Cup and Singapore Straits. Only Mandrake (Burns/Kinmonth) and Hi Fi (Neil Pryde) have competed in both the first two events, and are separated by only one point – game on!
Singapore Straits Regatta is timed to take advantage of the north-east monsoon winds. The regatta is co-organised by Changi Sailing Club, the Republic of Singapore Yacht Club, Raffles Marina, the Singapore Armed Forces Sailing Club and the Riau Yacht Club. Racing takes place along the southern shore of Singapore island, across the Straits to Nongsa Point, and off the Riau Yacht Club.
Class A entries:
Island Fling (HKG)
Mandrake (HKG)
Hi Fi (HKG)
Drumstick (HKG)
Ffree Fire 52 (HKG)
Foxy Lady (SIN)
Panic (SIN)
