Hamilton Island Race Week fleet on Cruz, Cruise and Crew's Control.

by Rob Kothe on 17 Jul 2001
Race Director Warwick Hoban is expecting a record fleet for 2001 Hahn Premium Hamilton Island Race Week from August 18th-25th 2001. Last night Hoban reported that 148 entries have been received for this year's regatta.

Curiously the fleet will include three phonetically identical boats.. Maynard Smith's Santa Cruz 52. Cruz Control will be sailing in PHS class along with Kiwi Murray Walbran's Beale 12.8m Cruise Control and Dean Corbett's Farr 1020 Crew's Control will be in Cruising Division.

The current entry list includes 68 Cruising boats, 22 IRC boats 20 PHS, 10 Farr 40's and 9 Big Boats,

As always the Hahn premium Race Week Cruising Division is very strong with 75 boats expected to hit the start line. There is strong international presence in this division with an American entry Tom Howell's Farr 58 cruiser Imagine, two Kiwi boats both from Auckland, Wayne Wood's Bushido II and the Wylie 60 Lightspeed owned by Neville Seward. The biggest boat in the division is Matt Allen's blue hulled CYCA entry Valtair. Smallest so far is Bill McMillan's Sonata 8 Jessie.

The French domination of Cruising boat market in recent years is reflected in the Cruising fleet mix with 14 Beneteau's and 10 Jeanneaus's..

Form guides for the IMS,IRC, PHS fleets will be released in coming days.
