The People's Choice Sports awards are now taking nominations.

As would be expected there are few pre-entered nominations for sailing - being Russell Coutts and Barbara Kendall.

You have until 30 October 2006 to nominate and then voting commences.

The Kia Motors People's Choice Sports Awards provide the opportunity for New Zealanders to vote for their sporting heroes of the year under a new, exciting and different format.

Kia Motors, SKY Television, The Radio Network and Fairfax New Zealand join together to give New Zealanders the opportunity to choose their favourite sports heroes of the year.

The Kia Motors People's Choice Sports Awards are an annual event where people can vote for their favourite sporting identities. Proceeds from the awards are donated to Paralympics New Zealand.

Following its inception in 2004, the awards have generated more than $200,000 for Paralympics New Zealand.

The Kia Motors People's Choice Sports Awards comprise of six awards categories: Sports team of the year, Coach of the year, Sporting icon, Sportswoman of the year, Sportsman of the year, Sporting moment of the year.

Nominate
During the month of October, New Zealanders will be able to vote for their sporting heroes online at Stuff.co.nz.

From the long list of nominations, the top five from each category will go through to the next round. These will take the form of six weekly studio-based shows on SKY Television, and simulcast on Radio Sport.

Vote for finalists
The five finalists in each category, as chosen by the New Zealand public, will be revealed on six weekly studio shows. Each show will focus on one of the six awards categories.

Once the finalists have been announced you can vote for your favourite sporting hero from the finalists in each category with your SKY Remote, via text message or here online.

Awards night
The winner from each of the six categories, as well as the overall Kia Motors People's Choice Sports Awards Supreme Winner will be announced on Friday, 8 December at the Supreme Awards Gala Dinner at SkyCity. This will be a great evening full of New Zealand personalities and sporting heroes.

The red carpet event, gala dinner and presentation will be broadcast live from SkyCity, and will screen on SKY Sport 1 and simulcast on both Radio Sport and Newstalk ZB.
