Giant Steps Sydney Autism Regatta WE NEED YOU

by Sailing Office on 11 Oct 2006
WE NEED YOUR YACHT!

Yachts are desperately needed to ensure a charity for children with autism, Giant Steps, does not have to spend precious funds chartering boats for their annual sailing regatta fundraiser.

The Giant Steps Autism Regatta will be held on Friday 3rd November at Middle Harbour Yacht Club and has become an annual event that provides companies with the perfect opportunity to 'team build' and network on Sydney Harbour in support of children with autism.

So far, 15 companies have registered in the non spinaker race and a number of yachts ranging from 32' to 60' have been donated. However, more boats are needed to ensure organisers do not have to turn groups away or divert funds from the charity to charter yachts.

Participation in the event sees competitors boarding a yacht with a skipper, enjoying a picnic lunch and participating in this social race on Sydney Harbour. There are no entry fees for donated yachts and skippers are invited to join in post race drinks and a barbeque dinner on the foreshore of the Middle Harbour Yacht Club free of charge.

This is a wonderful opportunity for yacht owners to sail Sydney Harbour and make a difference to children with autism.

Double Double
And the rest of the line is not toil and trouble, but quadruple, then another double… On the eve of the 100th Fastnet that has attracted some 464 entries, I heard of one entry in this record fleet that seemed so very apt. Not only because it includes the Commodore of the RORC, but because it combines two Brits and two Aussies.

Some thoughts on provisioning for distance sailing
A new perspective on provisioning and time spent at sea One of the great joys of distance racing unfurls the moment that the dock lines are untied. Suddenly, the myriad packing lists that inevitably define most trip-planning efforts become about as relevant as a tax return from eight years ago.
