Palma, Mallorca NZ Millennium Cup
Lloyd's Register has announced that it has signed on as a Gold Sponsor of the 2007 New Zealand Millennium Cup, which begins on June 19 in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.
The independent risk management organisation has aligned itself with next year's event because of its close association with yacht builders and owners. Many of the superyachts taking part in the regatta will have been built to Lloyd's Register's Rules for Special Service Craft, says the group.
'We set and uphold the highest technical standards of design, manufacture, construction, maintenance, operation and performance, in a way that is very similar to the exacting standards found in the yachting fraternity,' says Nigel Johns, Lloyd's Register Asia, country manager for New Zealand. 'Like the New Zealand Millennium Cup, our reputation is founded on excellence. We take great pride in progress and innovation.'
The 2007 New Zealand Millennium Cup is expected to attract around 70 sailing yachts over 30m (98ft) in length. Other companies that have pledged their allegiance to the NZ yachting industry by signing on as Gold sponsors include Auckland-based High Modulus, Marten Spars and Southern Spars.
