While Steve Kulmar’s Shining Sea and Guido and Michelle Belgiorno Nettis’ Transfusion have been sharing most of the laurels, Steve Proud and Will Hutchinson’s Swish is now running third in the Sydney 38 One Design divsion in the 23rd Hahn Premium Hamilton Island Regatta, having taken the sixth race on Wednesday afternoon.

After collecting the daily trophy Proud commented; ‘This is our first race win at Hamilton Island, we are really pleased, even proud’ he smiled.

‘We came off the line with a little bit of pace on the pin, the breeze had gone left, we flopped over onto port, the other guys overcooked it and we came nicely up to the mark into the lead, then it was a soldier’s course after that.

'We had a couple of little dramas, the wobbles down the last run, but we kept our feet.'

Where does the boat name Swish come from? Steve, Will In Seventh Heaven, naturally.

They are, they just love racing Swish, in fact these Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron sailors have campaigned in nearly every other event along the Australian East Coast since launching in 2001.

These events include one-design regattas such as Savills, Joico, Hamilton Island Race Week 2002 and 2004 and Sydney 38 State Championships and the 2006 Hamilton Islands InterNations Cup. Long races include Southport in 2002, 2003 and 2004, Mooloolaba in 2003 and 2004. As well, she competed in the 2001/02 and 2003/04 Coffs series, 2002/03 and 2003/04 CYCA Long Ocean Points Score and almost every Wednesday race on Sydney Harbour since.
