Dawn on day three of racing at the World Rowing Championships has dawned clear and sunny with temperatures forecast to be in the low twenties. After two days of showers the skies cleared yesterday afternoon and provided for a warm evening to sit out at a pub by the river - for the supporters that is! Today is the first day of Repechage heats. These races define the level at which crews will progress to the next stage of the regatta
The New Zealand crews have been out for their usual early morning row and with only Juliette Haig and Nicky Coles racing today in their repechage the supporters will have had the chance of a lie-in.
The Pair's race is set to go at 10:06pm (NZ) and they have Romania China, Denmark and Greta Britain to contend with. The first two will go directly to the A Final on Saturday. In the heats Florea and Papuc (ROM) were some 8 seconds behind the Kiwis while the Chinese were somewhat closer, on a time basis, finishing 3rd in the other heat. These two crews are perhaps the greatest threat with the Romanians having a long history of success in this discipline.
Conditions are ideal for racing so let battle commence.
