Lachlan takes line honours again

Lachlan Murdoch’s Swan 82 FD Ipixuna, powered to her second easy line honours win in the Premier Cruising class of the 59 nautical mile 2006 Club Marine Edward Island Race this afternoon.

His skipper Rollo Parkes guided the luxury cruiser conservatively from the Dent Passage start line, but once in the open waters of the Cumberland Passage, the 82 foot of waterline began to tell and with Lachlan on the helm, she sailed thruough the Sydney 47CRs', first Balance sailed by Paul Clitheroe who won yesterday, then Wot's Next last year's series winner.

Then she set out after the Volvo 60 Ocean Racer Getaway Sailing, formerly Andrew Short Marine, (and formerly djuice dragons from Norway) who was in the Performance Handicap class.

On the run Ipixuna sailed through her smaller rival and by the time she reached Catseye Bay she was more than two miles ahead.

Lachlan, like his father Rupert, enjoys offshore sailing. He sailed his own much smaller yacht in the Sydney to Hobart race of 1997.

The Swan 82 FD is hard to miss because of the distinctive lizard-emblazoned spinnaker; a giant replica of the tattoo Lachlan has on his arm.

On handicap today, Ipixuna finished fifth behind the two Sydney 47CR's Wots Next and Balance and two Beneteau First 47.7's Colin Woods Pretty Fly II and Ross Wilson's Eagle Rock.
