by Line 7 Media Centre on 30 Aug 2000
The Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club will host the first ever ISAF Grade 1
Women's Match Racing event in the Southern Hemisphere when the Club
conducts the LINE7 WOMEN 2000 series (Women's Open Matchrace Event,
Newport) on Pittwater from 30th Aug. to 3rd Sept. The event is seen as a
major step forward for Australian women in yachting.
The Grade 1 status has been conferred by the International Sailing Alliance
Federation (ISAF) following the success of the Grade 3 events the Club has
hosted in 1998 and 1999 and adds impetus to ISAF's Nov 99 confirmation that
Women's Keelboat Match racing will be a medal event for the first time at the
2004 Olympic Games in Athens.
