VANGUARD SAILBOATS NAMED SPONSOR OF US SAILING TEAM

by Jan Harley on 8 May 2001
The Olympic Sailing Committee of US
SAILING, national governing body for the sport, has announced that
Vanguard Sailboats of Portsmouth, R.I., has become a sponsor to the US
Sailing Team through April, 2002. The Vanguard sponsorship is
specifically targeted to support the five Laser Radial athletes who will
represent the U.S.A. at the 2001 Laser Radial Youth World Championships
scheduled for July 21-28 in Barcelona, Spain. In addition, the funding
from Vanguard will also provide for a coach to accompany the team. The
athletes attending the world championships will be determined by the
Laser Class Grand Prix Ranking System and will not have reached their
19th birthday in 2001. The announcement of the team and coach will be
made later this month.
'We are pleased to support the US Sailing Team,' said Chip Johns,
President of Vanguard Sailboats. 'Specifically we are very pleased that
our support can be focused toward building the framework which will help
develop youth sailing and our future Olympians'
Established in 1986, Vanguard Sailboats is the leading world
manufacturer, and largest US supplier, of recreational and high
performance small sailboats. Vanguard products include the Sunfish and
Laser, two of the most recognized brands in the sailing world.
