Second Inter-Club Commodores Forum set for Hong Kong
by Lindsay Lyons on 23 May 2006
The second global Inter-Club Commodores’ Forum will bring to a climax one of Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club’s busiest ever sailing seasons, during which the Club has organised international offshore races to China and the Philippines and watched its members participate in prestigious sailing events throughout the world.
The inaugural Commodores’ Forum was held in 2005 in Vancouver, attracting 3 overseas clubs and providing the catalyst for a proposed annual gathering of Yacht Clubs from around the world, at which topics of general interest could be discussed and ideas shared. RHKYC Commodore, Inge Strompf-Jepsen, was convinced of the Forum’s merits and the Club will host the 2006 event in Hong Kong from Friday 26 May to Wednesday 31 May 2006.
To date, 27 Clubs hailing from 17 countries as far apart as New Zealand, South Africa and Norway have confirmed their berth at the Forum, making it a truly international event for 'Asia’s World City'. The Forum activities will consist not only of the discussion panels, taking place on Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 May, but will introduce delegates to Hong Kong sailing in the form of the inaugural 'Commodores’ Forum Cup', to be contested on Sunday 28 May against the picturesque backdrop of Victoria Harbour.
