On the eve of Rowing New Zealand’s delegates departing to Munich to present New Zealand’s 2010 bid proposal to FISA, the architect of the Lake Karapiro Rowing centre has passed away.
Tom Flood, a member of the 1978 World Rowing Championship organising committee, passed away last evening following a lengthy illness.
Tom was a member of the Auckland Sacred Heart crew which won the inaugural Maadi Cup and later became an active member of the Hamilton and Auckland Rowing Clubs. He served on the executive of both the Auckland and New Zealand Rowing Associations and was a very active official at Auckland and Waikato regattas as well as officiating at many New Zealand Rowing Championships.
Tom Flood was held in such high esteem that he was voted President of both the Auckland and New Zealand Rowing Associations.
