2nd Reminder on Product Recall - Check Your Flares

by IBI News on 7 May 2006
White Collision Warning MK7 Hand Flare SW
IBI News: British safety equipment manufacturer Pains Wessex has issued a reminder recall on all of its White Collision Warning (MK7) Hand Flares Item No 52651 following an incident in which a member of the public was badly injured last month.

The hand-held flares in question are designed for use on leisure and commercial vessels as a white warning signal or for illumination purposes. They were sold on their own and as part of the Collision Warn-Off Kit and the ORC RORC Distress Kit.

If you have any Pains Wessex White Collision Warning (MK7) Hand Flares Item No 52651, return them immediately to the place of purchase for a full refund. If you are unable to return to the place of purchase, take them to your nearest chandler or telephone Pains Wessex on Tel: 44 (0)2392 623962 or email recall@pwss.com.

No Red (MK7) Hand Flares or any other Pains Wessex products are being recalled. The recall does not affect Pains Wessex Australia Aurora White Hand Flares.

As reported in IBI last month (see Pains Wessex issues product recall), a sailing instructor received serious injuries during a safety demonstration of a white hand-held flare on April 5, 2006. The UK's Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and Trading Standards has since launched a formal investigation into the incident.
