B&Q crosses finish line, now headed for Terengganu

by Team Ellen on 5 May 2006 Conditions have remained light and shifty throughout today, as B&Q’s boat speed has varied between 3 and 14+ knots; as a result they have covered just over 80 miles in the last eight hours. The forecast for the next 24 hours shows that the variable conditions look to continue with easterly 6-10 knot winds and possible tropical thunderstorms with gusts of up to 25 knots! Conditions look to build into Friday, with the possibility of more thunderstorms and showers as the wind begins to shift round to the southeast.


A HOT AND HUMID NIGHT AHEAD....

Conditions are heating up onboard B&Q as the tropical temperatures begin to set in and the crew prepare for another night at sea. The next 300 miles will see them continue to sail south along Vietnamese coastline, an area that has its own hazards, including the volcanic landscape, which can be experienced both on the land and at sea. B&Q will need to plot a safe route through some of the smaller volcanic islands as it navigates its way towards the Gulf of Thailand. Read latest news from onboard below…

B&Q CROSSES LEG 8 FINISH GATE AND KEEPS ON GOING.....

B&Q has crossed the finish line off the coast of Veitnam to finish Leg 8 at 08:23:30 GMT this morning (04/05/06). B&Q completed the 360 mile leg in a time of 2 days, 1 hour, 37 mins and 44 seconds. The crew now face the next 570 mile leg to the next finish gate of Tumpai, Thailand and then on to their penultimate stopover port in Terengganu, Malaysia. 'The conditions have been very shifty in the last 12 hours, which has held us back, meaning we have only covered about 75 miles which has been frustrating,' said Charles Darbyshire.
