Big Field Expected for Hogs Breath Mooloolaba to Airlie Race

by Tom Coull on 16 Apr 2001
This years' Hogs Breath Cafe Mooloolaba to Airlie Beach yacht race, due to get under way from the Mooloolaba Yacht Club on the 4th of August, is proving to be a popular feeder race for the traditional August Whitsunday Festival of Sail.

The organising committees of the Whitsunday Sailing Club and the Mooloolaba Yacht Club have received intentions to enter from many owners and
skippers, most also signalling their intention to compete in the Hogs Breath Race Week from 10th August as well as joining the starting line for the
Hamilton Island Race Week, to be held the week after the Hogs Breath regatta.

The Mooloolaba to Airlie mono hull race, sponsored by Hogs Breath Cafe (Australia), has traditionally attracted a wide variety of vessels, all taking
advantage of the prevailing South Easterly trade winds, used for so long to power the traditional cruising fleets up the Queensland coast during August.
This years event has also attracted some of Australia's most elite maxi's - skippers and crew all keen to get some sea time under their belts in
preparation for what has become Australia's most intensive blue water yacht racing month.

This years race up the Queensland coast will feature a wide variety of classes including Racing class, Performance Handicap and the IRC class. Miles
Wood, Intergalactic Marketing Manager for the event sponsor, Hogs Breath Cafe (Australia), says this years Mooloolaba to Airlie race is expected to
attract a record number of entrants. 'The tropical paradise here in the Whitsundays is fast becoming the place to be to race in Australia. Hogs Breath
Cafe is committed to supporting this event as it provides an opportunity for skippers and crew to ready their vessel and trim up for the big events in the
Whitsundays during August.'

The Radio Relay vessel for this years event will again be Shala V, owned and skippered by Mooloolaba to Airlie Beach veteran, Graham Roberts.
Roberts has sailed in every Mooloolaba to Airlie event and is looking forward to this years event. 'This is a long, hard race and the entrants really look
forward to arriving in Airlie and getting down to the business of sailing in one of the World's premium blue water locations', Roberts said.

Following the successful trial of an on-line entry form by the organisers of this year's Hogs Breath Race Week, the Mooloolaba to Airlie Beach yacht
race Notice of Race and entry form will be available from this Friday on the Hogs Breath Cafe web site (www.hogsbreath.com.au) - allowing entrants to
simply get on line and complete their entry form. 'The on-line Notice of Race has proven to be popular with race entrants for Hogs Breath Race Week
and we've decided to extend the same on-line facility to entrants of the Mooloolaba to Airlie Race. The entry form and Notice of Race will be available
on our website from Friday of this week', Wood added.
