Sir Peter Blake Sir Peter Blake Trust
Welcome to the first e-mail update for 2006.
Support the Trust and have a great night! The world premiere of a Larry Keating documentary entitled 'One Outstanding' - a reflection on the rivalry between Steinlager 2 and Fisher and Paykel during the 89/90 Whitbread is coming up. The event will be held at the Kristen School auditorium on the North Shore on Saturday 18 February and will be an opportunity to socialise with crew members from those two campaigns, to view the documentary and contribute to the Sir Peter Blake Trust.
Click here www.warkworthrotary.co.nz for more information and to order tickets.
We are pleased to announce the inaugural Sir Peter Blake Trust Bursary award. This award will be made to an outstanding university post-graduate master's student conducting research into an area relevant to the Trust's activities. Areas such as environmental science, ecology, conservation biology, environmental education and leadership are possible. The award is an annual bursary of $16,000 and will be made available through Massey University's Albany campus. Applications are now being called for and close 1 April.
This weekend on 11/12 February the Sir Peter Blake Trust (courtesy of Murray Thom) was represented in the OKI 24 hour yacht race being held on Lake Pupuke on Auckland's North Shore. The event was used as an opportunity to promote the Trust and its activities and to further publicise the 'Boaties' Environmental Code of Conduct'.

New Zealand's 'Seaweek' - a nationwide celebration of our coasts and seas is scheduled for 5-12 March this year. The Trust is involved in several activities - posters and educational materials have been sent out to schools and the NZ Association of Environmental Education has been doing a great job of coordinating this year's event.
Check the website ( www.nzaee.org.nz/Seaweek2006/seaweek.htm ) for more information and for opportunities to get involved.
The dates for the 2006 Sir Peter Blake Youth Environment Forum (YEF) - in cooperation with the Ministry for the Environment - have been confirmed. The YEF will be held in Wellington from 23-28 April. Senior high school students will be selected by Regional Councils around the country to attend, represent their regions and interact with other young environmental leaders. Further information regarding application procedures and the agenda for this year's Forum will be posted on the Trust website as soon as they become available.
The respect that the New Zealand public have for Sir Peter and his achievements were reflected in him winning the Sporting Icon category at the 'People's Choice Sports Awards'. Peter's brother Tony accepted the award at a special ceremony late last year.
That's all for now. Best wishes and thanks for your continued interest and support.
Kind regards,
