Seawind 1160 - Sailboat of the Year Media Services
Not only did they win the ‘Sailboat of the Year’ in the Australian Marine Awards 2005 for their Seawind 1160, but now exports are expanding rapidly for this Australian catamaran manufacturer. With strong demand in Europe, Asia and North America Seawind is certainly become a force on the world cat scene.

The Miami Boat Show starts tomorrow and runs through until the next Monday and the Seawind 1160 will make its US debut there and it does stand out from the crowd as a 'must see' boat.

The positive press this new Seawind flag ship has received in Australia has continued internationally with SAIL magazine in the US recently reviewing the Seawind 1160 and their report is in the current issue.

'The 38-foot Seawind 1160 strikes an effective balance between the superior visibility and cockpit/living space of an open bridgedeck and the obvious benefits of an enclosed saloon'...SAIL mag.

Even before the first 1160 has arrived in the Stated, Seawind has been gearing up to fulfil the 25 orders that have been placed by customers around the world. This is on top of ongoing orders of the popular Seawind 1000 (see photo below)

The Seawind Company, based in Wollongong, south of Sydney, is Australia’s large cruising catamaran manufacturer, It has build more than 150 of its very successful 10 metre Seawind 1000 and these catamarans certainly have a cruising track record, one owner in Perth sailed his catamaran there via the Great Barrier Reef, Torres Strait Darwin and Broome and they been sighted in New Caledonia and Fiji.

Many of them are being used as charter boat fleets in the Whitsundays.

As successful as the 1000’s have been, however it would not surprise if the 11.6 metre Seawind 1160 exceeds those numbers.

Two of the most popular features of the 1160 are the self tacking jib, ensuring the Seawind is a breeze to hand two up and the large open space created with the trifold door which lifts and stows into the roof to allow the cockpit and saloon area to be used as one large open living space.

Designed for high volume production, the 1160 is a monocoque construction, using a GRP foam sandwich. The cats meet both the USL code and Australian Standards
