Sandringham wins Geelong Advertiser Teams Trophy

by Rob Kothe on 29 Jan 2006
Melbourne's Sandringham Yacht Club has won a hard fought victory at Skandia Geelong Week 2006 winning the prized Geelong Advertiser Teams Trophy, ahead of Sydney’s Cruising Yacht Club of Australia. In third place was the Cruising Yacht Club of South Australia, from the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria who had held the trophy for the last two years.

Since its inception this trophy has been contested between Victorian clubs, with AMS and IRC results included, but as the event has become more popular the decision was made by Royal Geelong Yacht Club to score the Geelong Advertiser Teams Trophy event on IRC and as a result, for the first time, NSW, South Australian and Tasmanian clubs provided strong competition.

Sandringham’s winning team consisted of Graeme Troon’s Reichel Pugh 46 XLR8, Chris Dare’s Corby 49 Flirt, Alan Whitley’s Beneteau 44.7 Cougar and Sandringham Commodore Phil Coomb’s DK46 Dekadence.
