OK's announce Ranking list

by Robert Deaves on 20 Dec 2005
Nick Craig (GBR) heads the inaugrual OK Ranking List OKDIA.org http://www.okdia.org
The first release of an International ranking list for the International OK Dinghy includes some 287 sailors from 10 nations. The new ranking list is the first indicator of form for the upcoming Toshiba World Championships in Belmont, Australia in February. This new innovation for the International OK Dinghy Class has highlighted the recent worldwide growth in numbers as the class approaches its 50th year.

It’s no surprise that Nick Craig (GBR), the 2005 World Champion, leads the list, 33 points clear of second place with a perfect score of 5 first places at the Medemblik Spring Cup, Kiel Week, Warnemunde Week, the Danish Nationals and the Worlds. Second placed Jorgen Lindhartdsen (DEN) - the 'old man of the 'sea' of the OK class - lies in second after a string of top 5 results in 2005 including a second at the Danish Nationals and the Nordics. Third placed Greg Wilcox (NZL) - the 2002 World Champion - marked a return to form in 2005 with a bronze medal at the worlds and a second at Warnemunde.

The December 2005 ranking list includes results from the 2005 World championships, Nordics, Spring Cup, Kiel, Warnemunde, Interdominions and National championships from Poland, New Zealand, Australia, Great Britain, France, Denmark, Sweden, Belgium and Germany.

Each event is weighted between 1 and 2 according to the number of top 20 ranked sailors competing, while the World Championship is always weighted as 2.5. Events will remain on the list on a two year rolling system, with updates issued at strategic intervals during the year.
