Team Basilica launch their Extreme 40 in Vigo

Team Basilica launched their Extreme 40 in Vigo, Spain, Thursday. They then took the catamaran for its first sail in light winds, after a week of strong winds and rain. The team comprising helmsman Hugh Styles and crew of Peter Greenhalgh, Alister Richardson and James Grant, completed the first shake-down sail with Nick Gorringe, Managing Director of Basilica Computing Ltd.
In a meeting Wednesday the racing format for the Extreme 40 Volvo Grand Prix series was agreed. Racing is due to start Sunday through Thursday, with three races each day. Each race will comprise of a reaching start, windward/leeward and a reaching finish, with a target duration of 20 minutes. Racing will be held close to the shore to provide good spectating of the action.
There are now five teams entered in the Volvo Extreme 40 Grand Prix series. The latest being the Tommy Hilfiger entry with another top Tornado helm, Randy Smyth, a double silver medalist.
