Cadillac Van Isle 360 International Yacht Race - Update

by Janine Bell on 8 Mar 2001
Cadillac Van Isle 360 International Yacht Race - June 9 - 24, 2001

The third edition of the Cadillac Van Isle 360 International Yacht Race, the exciting race around Vancouver Island, B.C. Canada, is ramping up to be the biggest and best
one yet. As of March 1 twenty two (22) boats from Canada and the US have entered this extreme race and with the start date still three months away, organizers
expect the race will be a sell out. The race is limited to 30 entries. This year's race is also attracting some very impressive boats, ranging from Santa Cruz 52's to some
very exciting multihulls, including the Formula 40 'Dragonfly' formerly known to Ozzies as 'Simply the Best'. All are anxious to take on the challenge of this 580 nm
race around wild and rugged Vancouver Island. The course, which is broken down into ten legs, provides inshore, offshore and overnight legs and some of the most
beautiful scenery on the planet. At each of the 10 stops (which include the charming Capital City of Victoria and the remote fishing village of Winter Harbour) the local
community has planned welcoming receptions and live entertainment to welcome the fleet to their town.

Race Director, Wayne Gorrie stated ' In a sport notorious for last minute entries, to have this many boats sign up so far in advance is extremely rewarding. We are also
extremely proud to welcome back every one of our major sponsors for the second and third time. Without these dedicated sponsors this race simply would not exist.'
Returning for the third year in a row, as title sponsor of the race is Cadillac. Also returning for the third straight year are: UK Sailmakers Northwest, Okanagan Spring
Brewery, Arbutus RV & Marine, The Daily News & Harbour City Star and the Anchorage Marina. Returning for the second year are The Wave, Eagle and GTO Radio
stations and Pacific Yachting Magazine.
