New Orleans boatyard reopens
by IBI Magazine on 5 Oct 2005
MG Mayer Yacht Services announced today that it had reopened its West End boatyard on Lake Ponchatrain's south shore and a statement issued by the company said that Hurricane Katrina destroyed most of the immediate area and some of Mayer's facilities, but that the yard and the heavy-lift capacity crane are operational.
‘I'm thankful for the resources we still have here,’ said Michael Mayer, president of MG Mayer Yacht Services, in the statement.
In addition to boat repair and recovery services, MG Mayer is also providing housing through the sale of new and used boats that survived the storm. Most of their new boats escaped damage because they were secured on land.
Hunter Marine, one of the primary dealership lines, has pledged cash assistance for their customers and other Gulf Coast dealers for storm victims who have lost a boat and want to replace it with a new Hunter.
