Transfusion wins Sydney 38 division

by Lisa Ratcliff on 27 Aug 2005
Sailing in his first regatta, Guido Belgiorno-Nettis, the skipper of Transfusion, has been declared the overall winner of the Sydney 38 One Design division at Hamilton Island Hahn Premium Race Week, which concluded today.

With five wins and four second placings from 10 races, Transfusion was unbeatable in the pointscore and elected to sit out today’s final 22 mile South Molle/Daydream Island Race, as did the second placed boat overall, Stephen Kulmar’s Shining Sea.

Belgiorno-Nettis, the managing director of Transfield Holdings and a director of Sydney’s Middle Harbour Yacht Club, assembled a top crew for this week’s regatta and their pre-regatta plan to “be smooth, keep the boat quiet, keep the people focused on the job and hopefully, suffer no breakages” was perfect in its execution.

Geoff Bonus’ Calibre finished third overall in the Sydney 38 division.

The crew of Transfusion and other winning boats will attend this evening’s Presentation Dinner to celebrate what Hamilton Island’s owner Bob Oatley described yesterday as 'one of the best year’s ever' for Hamilton Island Hahn Premium Race Week.

With plans to build more marina berths and additional accommodation on the island, regatta organisers are expecting next year’s fleet to exceed this year’s record numbers.
