In the Whitehaven Race of 2004, strong winds and opposing tide produced Bass Strait conditions for the racing fleet at Hahn Premium Race Week.
A year later, same race, here at Hamilton Island's Hahn Premium Race Week, the wind god Zeus did it all over again, with gusts to 32 knots and lumpy seas yesterday.
New boats aiming for the Rolex Sydney Hobart race, like Neville Crichton's Alfa Romeo, are always keen to ensure their combinations are well tested, but they generally do not expect to see conditions like this in a tropical paradise.
This time rain squalls limited visibility for much of the race, but in 15 minutes of chopper time over the fleet, Andrea Francolini managed to capture some of the action.
It was a wet ride, with the door off, but with a good pilot and the right lenses, the image memory cards filled up fast.
Post the event, you will be able to see more of Andrea's images at: www.afrancolini.com but here is a taste.
