Its all change at Australian Yachting

by Media Services on 17 Jun 2005
‘It’s all change at Australian Yachting’, says Giles White, publisher of the three sailing magazines owned by Yaffa Publishing Group.

After several years as editor, present incumbent Simon Kent is off to pastures new. Simon is currently working closely with regular contributor David Salter who is doing a stint as part-time ‘locum’ editor until a suitable full-time replacement has been appointed.

In addition to the above role, Yaffa is also interested to hear from recent graduates of communications/journalism courses with a keen interest in sailing to fill an editorial assistant role across both Australian Sailing and Australian Yachting.

Whilst a relevant degree is ideal, Yaffa are happy to hear from anyone who is highly literate with a strong eye for detail as a writer and sub-editor.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in racing a variety of sailing classes.

Applicants for either job should apply as per below:

Australian Yachting magazine seeks a motivated Editor to make a real difference to this recently re-launched title. Reporting to the publisher, you will be responsible for taking the magazine to the next level editorially.

You will be deadline-driven with a proven track record in a front-line editorial role. A passion for sailing, the ability to sail and knowledge of boats are pre-requisites.

Whilst writing ability will be of the highest importance, you will also have strong organisational and communication skills and be able to demonstrate the ability to find, manage, commission and edit contributors.

Computer literacy is essential. The ideal candidate will be no stranger to using a camera and experience in layout and design will also be considered an asset.

Some evening and weekend work can be expected from time to time.

The role is primarily Sydney-based, although there will be occasional opportunities for travel within Australia and overseas.

Australian Yachting is one of six boating titles within a much larger stable of magazines from the well known and respected Yaffa Publishing Group.

We offer a salary commensurate with experience and a pleasant working environment.

If this sounds like a role you would like to take charge of and make your own, please apply to: Giles White, Publisher, Australian Yachting, Yaffa Publishing Group, 17-21 Bellevue Street, Surry Hills, NSW 2010 or by email to: gileswhite@yaffa.com.au
