Try sailing at Woollahra Sailing Club

by Media Services on 29 Apr 2005
Woollahra Sailing Club had a very humble beginning as seven enthusiastic Moth sailors starting the ball rolling and Victor Friezer becoming President while continuing member, Henry Arthur, was appointed Club Captain at a meeting on May 8th, 1953.

Racing during this period was typically conducted on Sunday Morning, consisting of no more than seven or eight boats that sailed on short courses in Rose Bay.

Going on with that tradition, WSC is now is expanding their services to the public and its members.

Owning a fleet of Tasars (3), Lasers (4), Pacers (4). Manly Juniors (3), and Flying Elevens (3), the club is making these boat available for members and people interested in joining the Club.

These boats will be available to be used in for the Club’s racing during the winter and summer racing program.

The public is invited to sample the facilities and racing, by using the club boats without the expense of having to buy a boat.

WSC currently has very strong 49er, 29er, Tasar, Hobie, Laser and B14 fleets, with the possibility of the Flying Dutchman class and 505s joining soon.

The Club is open to other classes joining in their winter and summer sailing program, with racing held most Sundays all year round.

For the past 10 years, the Club has also been running Primary and Secondary school’s racing on Saturday mornings during terms 4 and 1 and many local schools participate. Any class of boat and school is welcome to come and sail with the schools racing.

For the juniors, there is an extensive winter program run by Dinghy Solutions Sailing School, which is attached to WSC, including fitness sessions, sail training for the beginner and advanced sailors on Sundays all the way through winter.
