D Day draws near for German America's Cup campaign

by Courtesy Scuttlebutteurope on 19 Apr 2005 The German America's Cup campaign Deutsche Challenge 2007 AG is counting down the days - on 29th April, they will announce if their campaign, Fresh Seventeen, will be official challenger of the 32nd America's Cup.

This was decided by the board and supervisors on Thursday (14th April) in Munich.

The extended deadline for late entries has been set for exactly 4pm. that day, and it is only until then that clubs such as the Deutsche Challenger Yacht Club may formally file their challenge with the Société Nautique de Genève, defender and current holder of the Cup.

Up to then, all those involved in the project, spearheaded by their marketeers, are set to work hard and focus on bringing the intended entry to success.

Fresh Seventeen, they say, is about to reach its target, but friends, supporters and fans need a little bit more patience.

They stress that it was far from their intention to create a kind of dramatic suspense within the sailing scene.

Right now, close to the finish, important financing decisions are said to be taken almost daily, according to reports from the Munich headquarters.

There would be no comments on any kind of speculation whether the first German challenge in the 153-year history of the world's longest-standing sports trophy will get to the start.

No more statements will be given before 29th April from either DC 2007 AG or DCYC.
