Murray and Palfrey eighth on first day of Star Worlds

by Courtesy ISAF on 14 Feb 2005
At the completion of the first race of the Star World Championships at the Club Nautico Olivos, Argentina, the leaders were Torben GRAEL/Marcelo FERREIRA (BRA) a remarkable performance, considering that to win the race they had to recover from 11th at the first mark rounding.

Second placed in the 41-boat fleet were Fredrik LOOF/Anders EKSTROM (SWE) and third place, Roy HEINER/Alex BREUSEKER (NED). Early race leaders Max TREACY/Anthony SHANKS (IRL) finished fourth.

Robert SCHEIDT/Bruno PRADA (BRA) placed tenth in Race 1, up from a 26 at the first windward mark.

Britain's Iain PERCY/Steve MITCHELL retired on round three with a broken mast, they were in fourth place. Peter ERZBERGER/Hans JURG-SANER (SUI) also broke their mast and retired along with six others.

Iain Murray/Andrew Palfrey (AUS) finished a credible eighth in the first race, finding the conditions to their liking.

Winds were at 18 to 20 knots at the start with some stronger gusts and dropped slightly to 14 to 16 knots by the finish. The river was very choppy throughout the racing.

The race ended around 17.00 hours with winds blowing from E/SE 130° at around 20/22 knots.

The Star World Championship is the first Worlds in 2005 for the 11 Olympic events.
