Fleet in action - 2015 Islands in the Stream Series SORC Sailing
After two races, the SORC Islands in the Stream Series is still anyone’s to win. Unlike last year, when Stephen Murray’s Decision stormed out to win the first two races en route to winning the inaugural series, five different boats have both a first-place finish and a DNS.
Chris and Karen Lewis’ J44 Kenai and Frank Atkinson’s J125 Raisin Cane brought home the bullets in the Nassau Cup Race, while David and Peter Askew’s beautiful R/P 74 Wizard took line honors and the IRC Class win in the Wirth M. Munroe Invitational Miami to Palm Beach Race. Don Lasky’s J30 Paparazzi was the overall winner in Palm Beach, with Anson Mulder’s Oyster 575 24 Heures taking the win in the other PHRF class.
Watch out for consistency and participation to come into play, with Andrew Pike’s First 45 Achilles Keel and Eamonn deLisser/Jim Bill’s Farr 395 Senara both posting two second place finishes. Kenai, Raisin Cane, Wizard, Achilles Keel and Senara are all entered in the Ft. Lauderdale to Key West Race, starting on January 11, the SORC’s traditional mid-January sprint to the island of warm memories.
